Ciarán obtained his veterinary degree at University College Dublin in 2014 and completed a small animal rotating internship at Western College of VeterinaryMedicine, University of Saskatchewan in 2015. Following his internship year, he movedto Washington State University where he completed a three year ACVS surgicalresidency and masters programme and was awarded numerous scholarships includingfor teaching and for his research in exercise science.

Ciarán became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgery (DACVS)in Small Animal Surgery and a Diplomate of the European College of VeterinarySurgery (DECVS) in Small Animal Surgery in 2019. Ciaran has worked as a specialistsurgeon in North America, the UK and Ireland. Ciarán has a particular interest inarthroscopy, minimally invasive techniques, fracture repair and spinal surgery.

Following graduation in 2006, James worked in small animal practice, prior toundertaking an internship and residency in oncology at the University of Liverpool. Heearned the RCVS Certificate in Small Animal Medicine in 2009, the ECVIM-CADiploma in Oncology in 2011 and became an RCVS-recognised specialist in VeterinaryOncology. After several years in private oncology practice, James undertook a secondresidency at North Carolina State University in veterinary radiation oncology. Jamesreceived advanced training in all aspects of modern radiation therapy, including theplanning and delivery of highly sophisticated modes of radiation treatment (intensity-modulated radiation therapy and stereotactic radiation therapy). He has publishednumerous peer-reviewed articles, is associate editor for a veterinary journal and is theco-author of the neuro-oncology chapter in the 2023 BSAVA manual of Neurology.He has also served as an examiner for several years for both the RCVS and also forthe ECVIM oncology diploma. James enjoys all aspects of clinical work, particularlyusing his skills in both medical and radiation oncology to design custom treatmentplans. His goal is to try and improve the quality and length of life of his patients, withas few adverse effects as possible and has a strong interest in the development ofstereotactic radiation therapy.
