Dr. Thibaut Cachon, DVM, Dipl ECVS, MSc, PhD became ECVS board-certified in small animal surgery in 2010. Since that time, he joined, as a lecturer, the small animal surgical department of the veterinary school of Lyon (VetAgro Sup, France). His main interests are orthopedic and minimal invasive surgery.

Pr. Olivier Gauthier, DVM, MSc, PhD is Full Professor of small animal Surgery and Dentistry in the Department of Clinical Sciences of Oniris (Veterinary School of Nantes, France). He also carries out research activities at the University of Nantes, in the field of bone and joint tissue patho-physiology.

Topic: Trauma Surgery- Osteosynthesis of long bone fractures with an anatomic angle-stable interlocking nail system

This webinar is suitable for all veterinary surgeons with an interest in orthopaedic surgery and traumatology and wishing to be up to date with new fracture management techniques in small animals.

About this webinar:

Interlocking nail is an alternative to plate-rod or double-plating constructs in the treatment of complex longbone fractures. This technique is based on the use of an intramedullary nail, secured by proximal and distal locking screws. Bone drilling is performed using an extra-medullary targeting system. It provides unrivalled biomechanical stability to promote bone fracture healing. This concept has now been the gold standard for almost 50 years in human surgery for the treatment of long bone fractures but is not currently widely utilised in veterinary orthopaedic surgery.

Pr. Olivier Gauthier and Dr. Thibaut Cachon, who participated in the development and clinical evaluation of Surg’X ILN system, will share their experience and clinical expertise on the use of interlocking nails. They will cover the principles of interlocking nailing and give an overview of the different systems historically used in veterinary surgery and the evolution of designs. They will then present the features of Surg’X ILN system, and the results of its biomechanical and clinical evaluation.

This webinar will be conducted via Zoom. The session will be approximately 90 minutes and will include the opportunity for Q&A. Attendance certificates will be provided for live attendees.
